What's in My Toolbox?
🏠 While most of us are still spending so much time at home, parents have been asking me for advice on ways to help get their high school students started with college and scholarship hunting. I always say to start with the guidance office at your high school but for extra help, here are a few places to search from home.
- MyFuture.com- This site is a collaboration between the Departments of Labor, Education, and Defense. It's full of clear information on college and career exploration as well as a look at military opportunities.
- Niche.com- Here you'll find all kinds of information on colleges and universities and more!
- Commonapp.org- A database powerhouse for researching and applying to over 800 schools in the US and Europe.
- CommonBlackCollegeApp.com- On this one site, you have access to 56 Historically Black Colleges and Universities. You can also submit admissions applications to all 56 schools for one $20 payment!
Books that I LOVE:
- The Ultimate Scholarship Book- This is my #1 go-to guide for scholarship hunting and here's why! The Ultimate Scholarship Book is published every year. For the most part, the scholarships listed inside remain the same but with updates to deadlines and award values. I purchase a new copy every year to use while working with clients but your local library keeps them on hand as well.
- How to Get a College Degree For Free- This book, written by Crystal Goliday, MS, MBA, is full of great practical advice on getting the "what to do after high school" conversation started with your teen. Crystal uses her own experiences to help coach your student step by step through the college and career exploration process.
The guidance office of your high school has most of this information and so much more but now you have a few places to start searching on your own as well!
